Single ring (1x) iterations of the AXS eTap groupset still use a 4-bolt spider configuration and are not compatible with 2x cranksets, however, aero direct-mount 1x 48T and 50T chainrings are available. The 2x chainrings are available in the following configurations 50/37T (said to mimic a 53/39 11-speed chainset), 48/35T (mimicking a 52/36T chainset), and 46/33 (similar to a 50/34T chainset) The direct-mount chainrings are ~50-80 grams lighter than spider chainrings. Moving away from 4-arm spiders of old, SRAM has again taken a leaf from the mountain bike playbook, moving to direct-mount chainrings for all of its 2x cranksets. Rim brake calipers carry over largely unchanged from the AeroLink stoppers found on the outgoing groupset, meaning they’re still actuated via good ole stainless steel cables and have a maximum tyre clearance of 28mm.ĭisc groupsets score all-new rotors that feature rounded edges, organic brake pads said to increase brake power and modulation and there’s a treated braking surface that’s claimed to provide a quieter brake operation. With the majority of the industry pushing forward with disc-brakes as the new norm, purists can rejoice in the fact that SRAM have opted to offer its new groupset in both hydraulic disc and mechanical rim brake configurations.
